I am very happy to announce that the critical edition I prepared last year, commissioned by mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna for her wonderful and inspiring project, has been published!
What will you find in this edition?
-For the first time,
*Isabella Colbran’s Six «Canzoncine» in keys suitable for middle voices (mezzo-sopranos and baritones).
*Information and analysis of the literary sources, which help reconstruct the dramatic context of the texts, as well as Metastasio’s original punctuation, which clarifies the meaning of the work.
*Corrections to issues in the historical edition, comparison with the manuscript version:
omissions and ambiguities in harmony and vocal lines,
missing dynamic and agogic markings
correction of spelling errors in the text.
*A historical and analytical disambiguation of the long accents/ short hairpins present in both the manuscript and the first edition, and their effect on musical phrasing.
In the case of the French version, also
*a professional contextualization of Delrieu, the author of the translations
*correction of grammatical and spelling errors that affect the pronunciation of the sung text.
